I'm looking to get a metal detector, but the dilemma is which one.  I like the Gold Bug 2 and the Lobo ST.  I think the frequency on the GB2 is a little high.  Any thoughts?

I've only used Whites and Minelab detectors, but I have heard good things about other brands. It sure would be nice to field test several different models.

For gold detecting I prefer the Minelab GP Series and for coin detecting Whites models.

Go with the GB2...
the Lobo st has a larger learning curve but is a great machine.....
the Lobo works great if you do not throw to many things at it at once.
trash, hot rocks, alkaline soil, hot summer day and the machine has a nervous break down....then only runs on the surface. or at least the two i used!

The old gold bug is and always will be my choice of detectors in the harsh environment of the desert. simple to use ( and i love simple ) gump could find gold with a gold bug!!!

i like the idea of the lower frequency for the lobo as to not give up the depth.  I'm targeting gold 1/10th dwt.  Haven't found bigger yet.

Anyone hear anything about the x-terra 705?  It's got a couple of 18.75kHz coils as well as two lower frequencies.

Picked up a used Lobo ST for about $400 last night.  It has less than 50 hrs on it, so it seemed like a fair price.  Now to spend some time to learn it Grin

Sounds like a good deal. MSRP is $799.

Good luck to you, hope you find lots of nuggets.
